About the Accelerated BSN Program

This 16 month nursing program is designed for individuals who hold a Bachelor’s degree in another field, or have completed a minimum of 57 of credits of undergraduate studies, and complete the required prerequisites.  There are two pathways to earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN)

Student Learning Outcomes

This 16-month, full-time, in person nursing program is designed for individuals who hold a Bachelor's degree in another field and wish to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN). Due to the time constraints of the program application period, no exceptions will be allowed. 

  1. Function in the beginning role of a baccalaureate generalist nurse in settings that cross all populations and environments
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in the core nursing competencies of clinical/critical reasoning, patient safety, and quality improvement principles
  3. Integrate research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values to facilitate clinical practice decisions
  4. Implement the use of patient care technologies, information systems, and communication devices to support safe and effective patient care
  5. Demonstrate basic knowledge of healthcare policy, finance, and regulatory environments
  6. Maintain inter-professional collaboration and communication to improve healthcare outcomes
  7. Demonstrate professionalism and its values (including altruism, autonomy, human dignity, social justice, and integrity) as a baccalaureate generalist nurse
  8. Master the required core knowledge for baccalaureate generalist nursing practice
     


    Baccalaureate education provides entry-level for professional nursing practice.  This 16-month nursing program consists of 2 Pathways for those wishing to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN). Pathway 1 is designed for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree in another field.  Pathway 2 is designed for those who have completed a minimum of 57 credit hours to include Program prerequisites. (See below).
    All required general education courses and the previous baccalaureate degree MUST be completed by the end of the fall semester of the current application period.


Application Requirements

Pathway OnePathway Two

Designed for individuals who hold a Bachelor’s degree in another field and wish to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN).

  • Prerequisite Courses and completion of bachelor’s degree must be conferred by the end of the fall semester, no later than December 31 of the current application period. Due to the time constraints of the program application period, no exceptions will be allowed. 
    • Acceptance is contingent upon receipt of final transcripts. 
    • Students may request an unofficial transcript review by sending an email to UCCS Admissions Office at accbsn@uccs.edu
  • A & P courses must have a C or better
  • All transcripts minimum GPA 3.0
  • All science prerequisites must be within 10 years
  • Equivalent courses can be completed through another accredited institution of higher education.
  • Admission TEAS exam via ATI required. (See below for directions to register)
    • Competitive scores are required to be considered for the Accelerated Option.  Exam scores will be sent automatically to the College.  Physics is not included in this exam.
  • Certified Background Check:
    • A current background check must be completed according to the guidelines specified below under Applicant Checklist.  The results will be sent automatically to the College.
  • Up to two application cycles allowed, should first application be denied.

 

Designed for individuals who have completed a minimum of 57 undergraduate credits consisting of general education courses and prerequisites.

Those students admitted to the Traditional BSN program are not eligible to transfer to Pathway Two of the Accelerated program.

  • Undergraduate course studies from UCCS or another accredited institution of higher education with minimum GPA 3.25
  • All courses must be completed before December 31st of the current application period. Due to the time constraints of the program application period, no exceptions will be allowed.

Applicant Checklist 

Applications Accepted July 1 through November 15 (Or next business day at 5:00 PM (no incomplete applications will be accepted)

1. Review Rediness Self-Assessment.

2. Submit Transfer Student Application and pay $50 application fee.

3. Use the Prerequisites Worksheet to check your status and submit with your application. 

4. Share Official Transcripts from each institution attended, study abroad institutions, and AP College Board results are sent to:

6. Take ATI TEAS Pre-Admission Exam

  • Your ATI TEAS scores will be accepted up to one-year (365 days) before the end of the current admission cycle (November 15).

Licensure Information

Graduates of the traditional and accelerated program options in the BSN program are eligible to apply for licensure as a registered nurse in the states in which our curriculum meets the requirements for licensure.  State licensure is required for practice as a registered nurse.  You can learn more about the requirements for RN licensure by visiting the Colorado Board of Nursing RN application and forms page or by visiting the state board of nursing in the state of your primary residence.
