Outstanding Research, Scholarship, and Creative Work Awards

The Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences is dedicated to producing high-quality scholarly activity that contributes to the development of advances in health care and wellness. The college Outstanding Research, Scholarship, and Creative Work Awards recognize instructional, research, and clinical faculty, pre-tenured faculty, and tenured faculty who have demonstrated exemplary contributions to their dedicated field of research, scholarship, and/or creative work.

Eligibility

All full-time faculty in the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences with at least three years of faculty experience in Johnson Beth-El are eligible to apply. Specific award categories include: 

  • Pre-tenured faculty
  • Tenured faculty
  • Instructional, research, and clinical (IRC) faculty

Up to one award in each category will be awarded each year. 


Criteria

Nominees will be judged on their records in the areas of research, scholarship, or creative work. Nominees will be evaluated as it relates to expectations for excellence in research, scholarship, and/or creative work within the category the nominee is applying for (i.e., pre-tenure, tenured, IRC faculty). Examples of excellence can include highly impactful/consistent publications, consistent/excellence in attaining funding via grants/foundations, demonstration of robust community impact via evidence-based practices, external awards recognizing the nominees research, scholarship, and/or creative works, or highly cited/impactful media contributions to name a few. Specific requirements are that the candidates:

  1. Be a full-time faculty member in the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
  2. Have at least three consecutive years of full-time work in their respective research category (IRC, pre-tenure, tenured) at UCCS.
  3. Have not received the award previously.

Award

Each recipient of the Johnson Beth-El Outstanding Research, Scholarship, and Creative Work Award will receive a plaque and a small stipend to be used for scholarly purposes (e.g., conference travel, equipment). The award will be presented at the Spring College Assembly Meeting.

The winner in the tenured-faculty award category will be asked to give a ~15-minute presentation of their research, scholarship, or creative work at the Spring College Assembly Meeting. 


Application

  1. Anyone may nominate a candidate (CANDIDATES MUST FIRST AGREE TO NOMINATION); self-nominations are accepted and strongly encouraged.
  2. Supporting materials are to be assembled by the nominator and must include:

a.  A nomination letter (not applicable for self-nominees)
b.  A narrative (1,000-word maximum) of the candidate’s research, scholarship, or creative work detailing the originality, innovation, and impact/contribution of their work within the field/community (must be written by the candidate).
c. The candidate's curriculum vitae (prepared by the candidate).
d. A maximum of five letters of recommendation (none are required). 
i. These letters may be solicited from faculty, colleagues, students, or administrators and should speak to the originality of the candidate's research, scholarship, or creative work, and the impact and contribution of the candidate's work to the field/community.
e. Five examples of research, scholarship, or creative work: published books or articles, photos or videos of exhibits or performances, media, examples of evidence-based practices, white paper reports, etc. Please include a PDF of the work or a stable link to the work.

   3. Anyone nominated in the previous year, but who did not receive the award, is automatically reconsidered for the next year. The nominee (candidate) may choose to update materials, but this is not required. Such reconsiderations are limited to one award cycle, after which new materials must be submitted.
