Admission Requirements

Admission to the program is competitive has controlled enrollment. Applicants meeting the priority enrollment deadline will be given preference for available seats in the program. Remaining applicants meeting the final admission deadline will be awarded admission based on availability of seats.  In addition to these minimums, our most competitive applicants have their RDs or are RD eligible, have a passion and/or background in sustainability and food preparation, have excellent letters of reference from nutrition professionals and good academic standing that can speak to their potential as a graduate student. 

PRIORITY APPLICATION DEADLINE: All material received by January 20

FINAL ADMISSION DEADLINE: All material received by April 15  

Program Prerequisites:

  • One of the following (verification required):Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university
    • Registered Dietitian, registration eligible, or verification statement received from a DPD program (Didactic Program in Dietetics)
    • International applicants: IOC Sport Nutrition Diploma, nutrition degree or strong background in exercise science and nutrition required
  • Undergraduate coursework in exercise physiology and biochemistry
  • Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university
  • Undergraduate Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Undergraduate Major GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Apply online and supply the following documentation Completion of GRE with a recommended minimum score of 900 combined on math and verbal; analytical writing recommended minimum score of 4. Scores must be submitted to UCCS.
    • 3 recommendation forms/letters
    • Goal statement
    • Resume or Curriculum Vitae
    • Submit one official transcript from degree-granting institution(s). Transcript must include at least courses enrolled in during the final semester prior to graduation. Additional transcripts may be required to verify prerequisites or major coursework.
    • Application fee of $60.00
  • **Revised GRE (taken after Aug 1, 2011): Completion of GRE with a recommended minimum score of 290 combined on math and verbal. Analytical writing recommended minimum score of 4. Scores must be submitted to UCCS. UCCS institution code: 4874
  • Completion of an undergraduate Exercise Physiology course  (A general physiology course will not be accepted)
  • *Provisional acceptance can be extended with the requirement that students complete this coursework with a grade of C or higher within their first semester of graduate school. (See FAQ for more information)
  • Mandatory Background Check (upon admission)   
  • Recommended:
    • Completion of undergraduate statistics.  Although students will take statistics in their first year of graduate studies, experience shows the struggle is lessened if an undergraduate course has already been taken.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
In addition to the admissions requirements above, international applicants:

  • Must take the GRE
  • May be required to participate in a Skype interview as part of the interview process to assist with English proficiency evaluation; and
  • May be required to pay for the verification of accreditation of their university transcripts
  • Must demonstrate English proficiency by one of the following:
    • Provide evidence of a postsecondary degree from a US accredited institution or program where English is the language of instruction
    • Take the TOFEL and score 92 or higher
    • Take the IELTS and score 7 or higher
       

International students currently studying in the U.S. on F-1 visa and either applied for the optional practical training (OPT) or currently on OPT, please note, that UCCS encourages immediate internship placement which will meet the OPT requirement set forth by the visa regulation. Immediate internship participation will allow students to receive curriculum practical training eligibility upon receipt of approved internship/career placement. Internship opportunities should be discussed directly with the academic advisor and are not guaranteed until the applicant has been accepted by the academic program and UCCS.
